23rd Annual Conference – Session III: Fostering a New Major Power Relationship

In June 2013, President Obama met with China’s President Xi Jinping for a uniquely informal two-day summit at the Sunnylands Estate in California. Presidents Obama and Xi both conveyed clear messages to signal their strategic priorities — Xi touted a new type of major power relationship between both countries, and Obama focused on pivot toward Asia. Speakers explored ways to strengthen U.S.-China relations through bilateral trade and investment, cleantech cooperation, and public diplomacy.

Speakers:
– David Dreier, Chairman, Annenberg-Dreier Commission at Sunnylands; former Congressman and Chairman of House Committee on Rules
– Bill Mundell, Producer, Better Angels; Chairman, International Knowledge Measurement

Moderator:
– Dominic Ng, Chairman, Committee of 100; Chairman and CEO, East West Bank
