Statement from Committee of 100 on the Increasing Hate Crimes Directed at Chinese and Asian Americans

10th August 2022

New York, New York (August 10, 2022) – Over the past week, there has been a significant uptick in physical assaults and xenophobia directed at those of Chinese and Asian descent specifically in the San Francisco area. Committee of 100, a non-profit U.S. leadership organization of prominent Chinese Americans, issued the following statement today:

“We at Committee of 100 are extremely saddened and outraged by the continued violence and harassment against the Asian American community, including the recent attacks against Asian seniors. We once again call on our elected officials, law enforcement, and responsible media to bring due attention to these incidents and take immediate action to protect AAPI communities across the country against such racism, discrimination, and violence.

We hope that other organizations and individuals will join Committee of 100 in speaking out against the continued prevalence of anti-Asian violence and rhetoric taking place in their communities.

By shining a light on the horror that is taking place in San Francisco and other communities, we hope that it will spur the media, elected officials, and law enforcement to work together with community leaders to put an end to the hate. Hate has no place in our society.”
