New York, NY (June 23, 2022) — Committee of 100, a non-profit membership organization of prominent Chinese Americans, today issued the following statement on the 40th anniversary of Vincent Chin’s Death. Vincent Chin was a Chinese American draftsman who was beaten to death with a baseball bat on June 19, 1982, in a racially motivated crime by two white men. The assailants were given three years probation and a $3,000 fine but served no jail time.

“Vincent Chin’s death is one of the many unfortunate examples of racism and xenophobia that are still part of America. Like Vincent Chin forty years ago, Chinese Americans today are still seen as the perpetual foreigner in America,” said Zhengyu Huang, President of Committee of 100. “We are a nation of immigrants, bound by a common quest for a better future. On this important anniversary, we must renew our commitment as a nation to fighting racism and working towards equity for all.”
