Statement from Committee of 100 on Matthew G. Olsen Being Confirmed as Assistant Attorney General, National Security Division at the Department of Justice

28th October 2021

New York, NY (October 28, 2021) — The following statement was issued today by Zheng Yu Huang, President of Committee of 100, regarding Matthew G. Olsen being confirmed as Assistant Attorney General, National Security Division at the Department of Justice:

“Committee of 100 applauds the U.S. Senate’s confirmation of Matthew Olsen to lead the National Security Division at the Department of Justice. As the Department of Justice reevaluates critical policies such as its China Initiative, Mr. Olsen’s decades of experience in homeland security, law enforcement, and civil rights issues will aid in the reforms needed to strike the right balance between protecting national security and ensuring civil liberties. We must stop the xenophobia and violence that has been directed at the Chinese American community, and we at Committee of 100 remain ready to help Mr. Olsen and his Justice Department colleagues to achieve these vital public policy goals.”
