Statement by Committee of 100 Chair Gary Locke On Confirmation of R. Nicholas Burns to Serve as U.S. Ambassador to China

17th December 2021

New York, NY (December 17, 2021) – Committee of 100 released the following statement from Chair Gary Locke in response to the confirmation of R. Nicholas Burns to serve as U.S. Ambassador to China. Locke served as U.S. Ambassador to China from 2011 to 2014.

“As we work to retool our relationship with China, amid a pandemic, global unrest, and economic recovery, we need an experienced and respected diplomat representing the United States in Beijing. I have had the great pleasure of working with Nick Burns in the past. He is the perfect choice to take on this challenge in the midst of the many difficult issues separating our two countries but also opportunities for collaboration that would benefit our two peoples. Committee of 100 applauds the formal confirmation of R. Nicholas Burns to serve as U.S. Ambassador to China.”
