Committee of 100 Welcomes Eight New Members

New York, NY (April 21, 2022) – At Committee of 100’s forthcoming 2022 Conference & Gala, the organization will formally welcome eight new members into Committee of 100.

Committee of 100 is a non-profit U.S. leadership organization of prominent Chinese Americans in business, government, academia, healthcare, and the arts, focused on public policy, civic engagement, philanthropy, arts, and culture. For over 30 years, Committee of 100 has served as the preeminent organization committed to the dual missions of promoting the full participation of Chinese Americans in all aspects of American life and advancing constructive relations between the U.S. and Greater China.

Committee of 100’s members are American citizens who are proud of their contributions to the U.S. and their Chinese heritage. Members of the organizations are united by the belief in the fundamental American principles of equality and opportunity for all people, regardless of race, religion, national origin, gender, or creed. Committee of 100 and its members support the full inclusion and advancement of the more than five million Chinese Americans in the U.S. and believe that America is stronger because of its diverse citizenry.

American citizens of Chinese heritage are invited to Committee of 100 membership based on their extraordinary achievements. Members are pioneers in their respective fields across the arts, science, technology, business, and finance. Currently, Committee of 100 has over 130 members.

Convening under the theme, Chinese Americans in the New Millennium: Heralding Today’s Achievements, Shouldering Yesteryear’s Burdens, distinguished academics, policymakers, philanthropists, and thought leaders from across the country will gather in a series of discussions, debates, keynotes, and networking sessions on the future of U.S.-China diplomacy, economic interdependence, and the rise of anti-Asian hate. Committee of 100 is honored to introduce the eight new members for 2022:

Cyndie Chang is the Duane Morris Los Angeles Managing Partner and member of its Partners Board. Ms. Chang represents national and international businesses and litigates complex business disputes. She served as President of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA). She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Women Lawyers and Loyola Law School, LA, which honored her with its Grand Reunion alumni award. She was the President of the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association, which awarded her its inaugural Trailblazer award, a Commissioner on the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession, and a board member of the Asian Pacific Community Fund. She has been recognized as a Top 50 Women of Southern California Super Lawyers, the Daily Journal’s Top 100 California Women Lawyers, and “Champion of Women” and “Community Impact” advocate by the LA Business Journal and is a frequent speaker at many national and local community events. Ms. Chang is a graduate of Loyola Law School, LA, and a graduate, with honors, of Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Edward Chang is a neurosurgeon at the University of California, San Francisco.  Dr. Chang is chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery, which is ranked first in the nation by hospital rankings and NIH funding.  Dr. Chang’s work focuses on the brain mechanisms for speech, cognition, and human emotion— some of the most defining attributes of the human mind. He and his colleagues have deciphered key elements to the neural code of speech and were the first to restore communication of full words to a paralyzed man using advanced brain interface technologies. Dr. Chang was honored with the Blavatnik National Laureate for Life Sciences in 2015, in recognition of his fundamental contributions to science. He was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2020, and recipient of the Pradel Award from the National Academy of Sciences in 2022.

Wei He currently serves as the inaugural Artistic Director and Dean of The Tianjin Juilliard School. He will assume the post of CEO and Artistic Director of Tianjin Juilliard starting next academic year. A firm believer that the art of music bridges cultures and brings people together, He has been actively pushing boundaries through exciting programming, performance collaborations, community outreaches, commissioning new works as well as creating art festivals. Wei He is an accomplished violinist, pedagogue, and arts administrator.  Previously teaching at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music as a professor of violin for 17 years, He also served as Chair of Strings Department. Born in Sichuan, China Mr. He came to the U.S. for his undergraduate study at University of Texas at Austin and joined the San Francisco Symphony as a member of the first violin section upon graduation. Wei He has performed at many prestigious concert halls and taught master classes at music schools and festivals around the world.

Dr. Guiyou Huang is the President of Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. Before joining WIU, Dr. Huang served as the president of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Previously, he was the chancellor of Louisiana State University of Alexandria. Dr. Huang has also held a variety of administrative and academic positions at Norwich University (Northfield, VT), St. Thomas University (Miami, FL), Grand Valley State University (Allendale, MI), Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Lehigh University (Bethlehem, PA), Texas A&M University at College Station, Beijing University, and Qufu Normal University (Shandong, China). Author and editor of thirteen books and numerous essays and articles, he earned his doctorate in English from Texas A&M University at College Station; completed graduate studies in English from Beijing University; and earned his bachelor’s degree from Qufu Normal University. Dr. Huang is also a 2012 graduate of the Harvard Institute for Educational Management, among other Harvard institutes.

Dr. Nicky Lu is Chairman, CEO, and Founder of Etron Technology (established in 1991), an inventor of highly impactful integrated-circuit designs and technologies, and a serial entrepreneur of co-founding companies, from start-ups to publicly listed such as Etron, Ardentec, and Global Unichip. He received his Ph.D. from Stanford University and is a Member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) of USA and IEEE Fellow. He worked at IBM Research and then at the Headquarters and won an IBM Corporate Award. Dr. Lu was a co-Architect/Leader in creating Taiwan’s first 8-inch-wafer and advanced Logic / 4MbSRAM / 16MbDRAM technologies to equip the Taiwan semiconductor industry with leading-edge IC capabilities, which enabled and shaped Taiwan’s high tech industry to achieve today’s prominent position in the global economy. He also pioneered Known-Good-Die IC Technologies and coined the grand trend of “Heterogenous Integration of Technologies” for future chip developments since 2000. He has  46 US patents and authored more than 60 technical papers/reports. Dr. Lu was the Chair of the World Semiconductor Council (2014-15) and Chair of the Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association.

Michael Ma is the CEO and Board Member of NBA China.  He oversees the league’s basketball and business development initiatives in Greater China and is responsible for continuing to grow the popularity of basketball and the NBA. Prior to being appointed to the position in May 2020 by the NBA China Board of Directors, Ma was most recently CEO of Endeavor China, a subsidiary of global sports and entertainment leader Endeavor with Sequoia Capital China and Tencent. As the founding head of Endeavor China, Michael was instrumental in establishing relationships with industry-leading sports and entertainment properties and expanding their reach in China. Michael, who initially joined the NBA in 2003 and quickly rose to become Vice President of Global Strategy, helped launch NBA China in 2008 and grow the league’s presence throughout the country through corporate development, sponsorships, media distribution and gaming. Michael holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Rutgers University. He serves as a mentor at the Schwartzman College at Tsinghua University.

Margaret Wong is a global entrepreneur with a myriad of highly successful enterprises forged on creating multi-million-dollar businesses and mastering international trade between the U.S. and China.  This expertise has the Sacramento Bee and Comstock’s Magazine dubbing her the “Business Empress.”  Margaret is the Founder, President and CEO of McWong International Inc., a leading industrial IOT lighting company known for manufacturing/design; and owner of multiple related companies. Margaret serves on boards for the California Chamber of Commerce, California Asian Chamber, Themed Entertainment Association, and as a Governor’s Appointee. A Hong Kong native, Margaret received her B.S. from the University of Hong Kong and has also won the prestigious President’s “E” Award and “Export Businesswoman of the Year” – U.S. Department of Commerce/MBDA.  Margaret has led numerous successful delegations from the U.S. to China, including with several California Governors, U.S. agencies, and sister-city efforts. Under President Obama, Margaret was selected for the Presidential Trade Mission to China.  Margaret also helped to bring the NBA to China, promoting sports and education – establishing herself as a champion of U.S. – Sino goodwill.

Lili Zheng is a senior partner at Deloitte with over 25 years of experience in cross-border tax planning and is responsible for Deloitte’s overall cross-functional services to multinational companies investing Asia as well as Chinese & Asian clients investing in the U.S. Leveraging on her extensive experience working in San Francisco, Tokyo, Beijing, San Jose and Hong Kong. Lili provides practical and implementable solutions to MNCs on their cross-border investment structuring, intellectual property, M&A, entry and exit strategies. Lili is a frequent speaker on bilateral investment matters. She has been recognized by various professional organizations and received AWIB Leadership award by Asian Women In business and the Women of Influence Award from the Silicon Valley Business Journal. Lili is a board member at Huayuan Science and Technology Association in Silicon Valley, and a lifetime member of BayHelix. She received her BS in Accounting and Finance from UC Berkeley and MS in Taxation from Golden Gate University and is a licensed CPA in California and New York.
