Committee of 100 mourns the passing of President George H.W. Bush. Like other Americans, we observe a day of mourning. President Bush was a foreign policy expert. He was among the U.S. representatives to China prior to full normalization of relations between the two nations, heading an office that would become the Embassy. Throughout his career as Vice President and President, he continued to maintain his personal friendship with China. He helped ensure stability within the world. He also showed he was an ordinary person: with his late wife, Barbara, he would ride bicycles around Beijing like everyone else at the time.
President Bush continued following public service to be an example of leadership that was bipartisan. His example should inspire.
