The Committee of 100 Asian American Career Ceilings Initiative event, featuring a fireside chat on the topic “Are Asian Americans Paid Less in Business” was held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
 
The webinar featured findings from a recent study conducted by Professor Jackson Lu of the Sloan School at MIT as well as a discussion on closing the salary gap and developing mentorship with panelists Professor Lu; Kweilin Ellingrud, McKinsey Global Institute Director and Senior Partner in the Minneapolis office; and Jackie Wong, Associate Partner in McKinsey’s Philadelphia office. Kweilin and Jackie were two of the co-authors of a McKinsey report titled, “Asian American Workers: Diverse Outcomes and Hidden Challenges.” Peter Young, Chair of the Initiative and a Committee of 100 Member, was moderator.

Jackson G. Lu

Jackson G. Lu is the Sloan School Career Development Associate Professor in Work and Organization Studies at the MIT Sloan School of Management. One of the youngest tenured professors at MIT, he has published in top general science journals (Nature Human Behaviour, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences), management journals (Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Organization Science), and psychology journals (Annual Review of Psychology, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Psychological Science). His research has been featured in over 300 media outlets (e.g., BBC, The Economist, The Financial Times, Harvard Business Review, NPR, The Boston Globe, The New York Times, The Washington Post).  

He has received many prestigious awards and honors, including World’s 40 Best Business School Professors Under 40, 30 Thinkers to Watch, NLS Rising Star Award from the Academy of Management, Rising Star Award from the Association for Psychological Science, SAGE Early Career Trajectory Award from the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, Early Career Award from the International Association for Conflict Management, New Investigator Award from the Behavioral Science & Policy Association, Louise Kidder Early Career Award from the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, and the Best Senior Editor Award from Management and Organization Review. Jackson received his PhD from Columbia Business School. Jackson is also a Committee of 100 Next Generation Leader ’23.

Peter Young

Peter Young is CEO and President of Young & Partners, a boutique corporate strategy and investment banking firm focused on the life science and chemical industries. He manages the firm and is actively involved in client projects, transactions, and financings. Under his leadership, Young & Partners has established and maintained its position as a highly regarded firm serving the corporate strategy, M&A, restructuring, and financing needs of clients worldwide. He was previously head of industry groups at Salomon Brothers, Schroders, and Lehman Brothers, a senior private equity executive with J.H. Whitney & Co., and a senior member of Bain & Co., a corporate strategy firm.   

Mr. Young received a BA in Economics from Yale, an MS in Accounting from NYU, and an MBA from Harvard Business School where he graduated as a Baker Scholar. He is a CPA and a Chartered Global Management Accountant. He serves on several boards of directors, both corporate and non-profit; and is a board member of Société de Chimie Industrielle, a leading life science and chemical industry non-profit organization; and on the Editorial Advisory Board of Pharmaceutical Executive. He is also the New York Regional Chair for Committee of 100.
