Committee of 100 Members View Fireworks on the Hudson River to Celebrate Chinese New Year

On the evening of  February 6, C-100 members attended a reception at the Chinese Consulate in New York to view a Lunar New Year fireworks show over the Hudson river. The event was hosted by Ambassador Zhang Qiyue, Consul General of China in New York,  and her husband Ambassador Liu Jieyi, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations. C-100 members Guoqing Chen, Anla Cheng, Clarence Kwan, Shirley Young, Henry Tang, and Tan Dun participated in the festivities.

During the viewing party, multiple barges on the Hudson launched a massive fireworks show designed and organized by China Central Academy of Fine Arts, and executed by world-renowned company, Fireworks by Grucci. The display, titled “The Voice of Fantasy”, utilized groundbreaking firework technology and was timed perfectly to music composed by C-100 member Tan Dun.

The Committee of 100 celebrated the Year of the Monkey with a series of exciting events at iconic venues across New York, including a special Lunar New Year gala and performance by the New York Philharmonic. This year’s events also honored the inaugural city-wide Lunar New Year public school holiday. Thank you to all who participated, and we look forward to a wonderful Year of the Monkey!
