On February 8, Committee of 100 participated in the first annual Lunar New Year Students Day at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. The celebration marked the inaugural New York City Lunar New Year public school holiday, and was attended by C-100 co-founders and governors Shirley Young and Henry Tang and C-100 member Frank H. Wu.

The daylong festival welcomed public school students from across New York City and featured remarks from Council Member Margaret Chin, Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, Manhattan Boro Pres. Gale Brewer, and Deputy Chancellor Milady Baez. The celebration also included performances by National Dance Institute and a mass dance event for student attendees, as well as a special presentation by The Nature Conservancy on the endangered golden monkey and the environment.

The Committee of 100 celebrated the Year of the Monkey with a series of exciting events at iconic venues across New York, including a special Lunar New Year gala and performance by the New York Philharmonic, as well as a fireworks viewing party at the Chinese Embassy.
