Eric Chan

Chief Business and Strategy Officer at Gap Inc.

Eric Chan is the Chief Business and Strategy Officer at Gap Inc., where he leads Strategy, Corporate Development, International and Wholesale, Card and Loyalty, Real Estate Design, Development and Dealmaking, as well as new growth category launches into Beauty and Accessories. Having started his career in investment banking at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, Chan went on to found and sell a technology company to Hewlett-Packard, lead direct-to-consumer businesses, and hold executive roles at Cisco, Mattel, the Los Angeles Clippers, and now at Gap Inc.

With more than two decades of financial and operational leadership experience spanning Fortune 500 companies and high-growth startups, Chan has built a career defined by shaping strategy, scaling businesses, and leading through transformation.

Raised by immigrant parents from Hong Kong, he developed an early appreciation for communication, adaptability, and navigating complex environments. He witnessed firsthand the barriers his father faced in breaking through the corporate glass ceiling, along with the resilience and sacrifice required to succeed. These experiences shaped his perspective on leadership — instilling both a deep sense of responsibility and a commitment to operating with authenticity in environments where decisions are made and influence is earned.

As an Asian American leader, Chan has been intentional about how he shows up to lead, influence, and create opportunity. He previously served on the board of East West Players, the nation’s largest Asian American theater organization, and has held executive sponsor roles for Asian American employee resource groups both during his time at the NBA and currently at Gap Inc. Through these efforts, he is committed to helping connect communities, support the next generation of leaders, and build on the foundation set by those before him. His contributions have been recognized by various organizations, including Gold House, where he has been named an A100 honoree twice.

Reflecting on his journey, Chan shared on the Across the Lines podcast, “my voice actually matters here. I have a unique ability to potentially influence future leaders to do bigger and better things than I have.”

That sense of purpose ultimately led him to the Committee of 100 — a milestone that fulfills a dream first envisioned by his father. Chan views his platform as both a responsibility and an opportunity to foster dialogue, strengthen representation, and contribute to broader understanding across communities.

Chan earned his MBA from Harvard Business School and holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley.
