Starr Companies, founded by American entrepreneur Cornelius Vander Starr in 1919, is a global insurance and investment organization chaired by Maurice R. Greenberg, a World War II hero and the founding chairman of AIG.
Mr. Niu oversees Starr’s global capability that meets the investment, asset allocation, private wealth, risk management and other strategic needs of emerging-market investors doing business in the U.S. and around the world, as well as companies and local governments in developed and developing countries seeking private or global investments that support commercial growth, capital optimization, job creation or infrastructure enhancement. He runs the advisory arm of Starr and manages CEO relationships with its various insurance and investment subsidiaries. Additionally, he serves as Chairman, Board of Supervisors, Starr Property & Casualty Insurance (China) Co., Ltd.
Mr. Niu is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Committee of 100. He is a Founding Advisory Council Co-Chair of the Asian American Foundation. He is actively involved in efforts supporting Starr’s historic commitment to U.S.-Asia relations. He also served as a Board Member of Junior Achievement in New York.
Prior to Starr, Mr. Niu held various senior leadership and management positions in North America, Europe and Asia with ING, AIG, and China International Trust & Investment Corporation.
Mr. Niu earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Tsinghua University in Beijing, and an MBA from Columbia Business School in New York. He also attended the Financial Services Senior Executive Leadership Program at INSEAD in Paris and Singapore.
