Committee of 100 Condemns Recently Announced Hate Crime In California

11th June 2024

New York, NY (June 11, 2024) — Committee of 100, a non-profit membership organization of prominent Chinese Americans, today issued the following statement in full support of the recently announced hate crime charges being filed against a California man for a violent 2021 attack on an Asian woman. The Department of Justice has announced that a federal grand jury indicted the man with one count of committing a hate crime for his 2021 attack in Culver City, a city where 17% of its residents identify as Asian.

“Racially motivated hate and violence against any minority group is unacceptable, and we applaud the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Culver City Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for working to hold the attacker accountable. We urge groups and organizations across all communities and backgrounds to join with Committee of 100 as we collectively work towards concrete actions that will address the roots of violence and xenophobia against the AAPI population and bring an end to these bias-motivated attacks. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family.”
