Don Liu is Professor Emeritus of Ophthalmology at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. Formerly, he served as the Senior Advisor and Associate Director of Technology Transfer at the University of Southern California. He has been a consultant to the medical industry and has designed various surgical instruments. He has also held posts as a visiting professor to various institutions in the US and abroad.
He has published many professional articles, book chapters, and served on the Ophthalmology Board and editorial board of various professional journals. Notably, his book on the laboratory mouse operations has been highly praised by academicians.
He is a member of many professional organizations including the oldest and most prestigious American Ophthalmological Society. He has been listed in many Who’s Who’s such as the Best Doctors In America, the Best Ophthalmologists in America, and Who’s Who in Health Care. Among many of his professional awards and recognitions includes the most prestigious Guest of Honor of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
He has been active in many socio-political movements and forums. He was involved in the Martin Luther King Consul for Social Changes in the 1970’s, in the protest in the Vincent Chen’s case in Detroit in 1982, and as a key fundraiser for Mike Woo’s candidacy for mayor (LA) and the Bush-Quayle run in 1992. He worked closely with the Health Minister in China and Taiwan in AIDS prevention since the early 1990’s. He has also been actively involved in many domestic and international medical missions. Of note is his role as a Board director of Medical Books for China since the late 1970’s. Over the past five decades, this organization has donated ship loads of medical books, supplies, surgical instruments and equipment to China.
