Born in China, raised in the US and now living in Beijing, Kelly Cha can only be defined as a true artist and creator. Acclaimed TV and radio host, established musical performing artist, singer/songwriter, published author, painter and most coveted live event hostess in the advertising field for brands ranging from consumer to luxury to auto to fashion, Kelly is a well-known personality in China’s entertainment space.
Represented worldwide by Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Kelly was named “Next Gen Asia 2010” by The Hollywood Reporter and “China’s Top 5” by Billboard Magazine. She has shared the spotlight with many creative talents including Grammy-winning American rock band Linkin Park, Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett, German rock legend Udo Lindenberg, award-winning trumpeter Chris Botti, and Chinese film actress Gong Li. In 2010 Kelly hosted a 5-day 3-city tour of China with Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, during which she enjoyed the rare chance to perform live with Mr. Buffett, singing and playing guitar alongside his masterful ukulele skills, and gained overwhelming media coverage in Greater China. To close out the year, Kelly became a face of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class in China, and was prominently featured in an elaborate online, print and live product launch campaign for their brand.
In a first-of-its-kind tour in China, Kelly partnered with technology giant, Apple, to take an interactive, multimedia and educational experience on the road in November 2010. Touring the cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing, she appeared live in front of students at six college campuses, sharing with them her stories, experiences, career choices and musical performances. The Apple tour is set to resume in mid 2011 with exciting new additions to the format.
Kelly has been producing radio since she was in her teens, hosting popular shows on KAZN 1300 in Los Angeles as well as China National Radio (CNR), and China Radio International’s Hit FM (CRI). In November 2008, she created an entirely new brand of international radio, The ZhaZha Club Show, broadcast 7 days a week on CRI’s EasyFM, featuring guests from all around the globe, with a special video component airing on Sina.com, one of China’s most prominent internet platforms. As of October 2010, “The ZhaZha Club Show” is sponsored by one of the country’s leading mobile companies, China Telecom. In 2011 the show has plans to expand further through its online video component.
Throughout the years, Kelly has hosted several television shows in China including “Action English”, “Harper’s Bazaar TV”, “Han Ban-Confucius Institute” and “Made in the NBA” on CCTV-6 (China Central TV’s Movie Channel), Hunan Satellite TV and the Travel Channel. Currently in development for 2011 is a new TV show, tailor-made for Kelly, to feature her many talents and international appeal.
A prolific singer-songwriter, Kelly released her debut self-written concept album “The Last Radio Show” in August 2010 on Beijing-based Modern Sky Records. She regularly performs live with her band on the Chinese club and festival circuit, making her one of the most unique and interesting voices in the China rock scene.
Kelly is also the author of three published books: “Looking at America: Memoirs of a Chinese Girl” (written in English and Chinese); “More Than Chords” (in-depth interviews with the top 10 singer-songwriters in China); and “Happiness”, a collection of three novellas with a companion audio soundtrack, published by the People’s Publishing House of China.
Kelly holds a Master’s Degree in International Business Studies, is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, and has created a thriving bicultural entertainment environment. One of her biggest passions is to bridge the East and West through music, creativity and education.
