About the Weekend

Where leaders come together to write the next chapter.

C100 convenes its members and invited leaders of the AAPI community at the Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas for two days of deep, deliberate engagement. Through intimate working sessions, not panels, we tackle the questions our communities face right now, strengthen relationships, and build trust that ripples through boardrooms and coalitions.

This year also marks a leadership transition, celebrating Governor Gary Locke’s tenure as Chair and turning, together, toward what comes next for C100.

Contact the C100 team events@committee100.org with any questions about attendance.

Don’t miss the moment this chapter turns.

How do we coordinate rapid response when threats emerge?
What U.S.-China programs remain viable and effective today?
How do we preserve Chinatown’s history while building future community space?
How do we mobilize philanthropic resources for AAPI issues?

Friday Working Sessions

April 24, 2:15 – 3:30pm

What is possible when we move together?

C100’s members span every sector that shapes American life, and so should our collaborations. Friday brings C100 members and community leaders together across sectors, not just within them. We gather to pool our collective power, surface opportunities no single organization could see alone, and listen to where C100 can better serve the broader AAPI community. All sessions are off the record so participants speak candidly. The afternoon will feature concurrent sessions, each designed for focused exchange rather than presentations. Each session begins with 5 to 7 minute lightning remarks, followed by a facilitated roundtable discussion with all participants.

Sessions include:

Narrative Power: Beyond Visibility
Visibility alone doesn’t shift narratives. How do we build narrative infrastructure we own? Wikipedia, journalism, fiction, research, national museum, academic curricula.
Christina Shih, Senior Director, Development, Learning and Strategy, Press Forward
Lisa Gibbs, President & CEO, Pulitzer Center
Frank Schulenburg, Executive Director, Wiki Education Foundation
Donald Young, Executive Director, Center for Asian American Media & C100 Member
The Long Competition: Finding Space for Constructive Work
The U.S. and China will compete for decades. What does constructive engagement look like now? What programs work when both sides are suspicious?
Neil Ruiz, Head of New Research Initiatives
Joe Fawkner, Senior Policy Advisor, Akin Gump
Ben Wu, Vice Chair, US-Asia Institute & C100 Member
🏮
Chinatown After Chinatown: Honoring History, Building Future
Chinatown began as a refuge. Now some neighborhoods face displacement while Chinese American identity extends far beyond them. What role do these places play going forward?
Ted Gong, Executive Director, 1882 Foundation
Brian Pang, Executive Director, Asian Leaders Alliance / Co-Lead, Chinatown Solidarity Summit
Buck Gee, C100 Northern California Regional Chair
Speed and Solidarity: Moving Together in Crisis
When crisis hits, can we move fast and stay coordinated across organizations with different processes, timelines, and resources?
Jennifer Wu, Founding Partner, Groombridge, Wu, Baughman & Stone
Krystal Ka’ai, Executive Director, National Asian Pacific American Museum Commission
David Ryu,, CEO, AAPI Lead
Deb Wong Yang, Partner, Gibson Dunn & C100 Vice Chair
💰
Mobilizing Resources: Asian Americans and Philanthropic Power
Asian Americans are 7% of the U.S. population but receive 0.2% of philanthropic dollars. What will it take to close this gap?
Connie Chung Joe, President & CEO, Asian Americans / Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy
Evan Louie, Managing Partner, Asian Pacific Joint Venture
Jenn Mao,Chief Financial and Investment Officer, Welcome to Chinatown
Daphne Kwok, Vice President, Audience Strategy, AARP & C100 member

Activities & Experiences

Friday
1:15 – 2:00pm
Narrative Mechanics: Philanthropy, Culture, and the Zeitgeist as Competitive Strategy
Former AMPAS President Janet Yang, Network News Anchor Richard Lui and special guests offer a behind-the-scenes look at how narratives take shape across film, news, and public life. The conversation explores how stories move from lived reality to screen and broadcast, how films are greenlit, what happens behind breaking news cameras, and how philanthropy and partnerships influence what reaches the public. Drawing on perspectives from mentorship, donor development, and the intersection of music and film, the session examines how narrative is built, financed, managed, and ultimately turned into cultural and community impact.
