The Committee of 100 Unveils New Asian Pacific Americans (APAs) in Higher Education Report Card
Given the growing Asian Pacific American (APA) population in the U.S. (about 5 percent of the U.S. population or 13.5 million people) and the receptivity to the Committee of 100's (C-100) APA corporate board report card in 2004, C-100 felt it could make another positive contribution by commissioning a similar report card pertaining to higher education.
For the purposes of this study we examined the top quartile of higher education institutions as listed in U.S. News & World Report’s 2005 Rankings. The research showed that, while APAs are well represented as students (6.4 percent) and faculty (6.2 percent), only 2.4 percent are represented in the positions of president, provost, or chancellor in higher education.
This report card is only a starting point for further research and deeper discussion about identifying the barriers and creating solutions to increase the number of APAs in senior administrative positions in higher education
