Calvin Tsao
Principal
Tsao & McKown Architects
Since co-founding Tsao & McKown Architects in 1985, Calvin Tsao has emerged as one of most thoughtful and original voices in contemporary design. The firm’s body of work comprises domestic, urban, and pro-bono projects, integrating architecture as well as product, furniture, and exhibition design, within contexts as varied as the globe. Mr. Tsao’s most recent venture, IMC Octave, has developed major mixed-use projects in Qingdao and Kuala Lumpur, and is in the early stages of planning a new community in Sichuan Province that will be environmentally, economically, and culturally sustainable. Mr. Tsao is President of the Architectural League of New York, and serves on the Visiting Committee to Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. A Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, he has taught at Harvard and at the Parsons School of Design.
